Karma Yoga Programme

A deep immersion in spiritual life and service

The Full-Time Karma Yoga programme is a rare opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the life of a traditional yoga ashram.

For a minimum of one month, you live within the community, participate in selfless service (karma yoga) and deepen your spiritual practice under the guidance of Swamis and long-time teachers.

This programme is for graduates of the Sivananda teacher training (TTC) or advanced practitioners who wish to take a break from their daily life to dedicate themselves to intensive practice and spiritual evolution.

The salt of life is selfless service. The bread of life is universal love.

What is Karma Yoga?

Karma yoga, or selfless service, is the first of the four paths of yoga.

It consists of performing an action for the good it brings, without expecting any reward.

This practice purifies the heart, reduces selfishness, and opens us to the fundamental unity of all things.

According to great yogis like Swami Sivananda, karma yoga is the foundation upon which all yogic practice is based.

The great yogis constantly show us the way to purify the heart. Selfless service is the best way to achieve this.

Why do the Karma Yoga programme at the ashram?

Sharing in Community

Practicing yoga raises our energy and vibration level, and yet maintaining a regular practice alone can still prove challenging. Join a team of diverse individuals united by a common goal of personal growth and feel the difference a supportive community can make. The Ashram is a place of high and pure energy in which your desire for growth will feel nurtured and expanded.

Connecting in Nature

Breathe clean fresh air in the Orleans forest, the largest forested area in France. It is an enchanting spread of fields and forests full of birdsong and conducive to meditation and silent walks. The grounds have many gardens and lawns shaded by beautiful, tall, ancient trees under which to practice and reconnect with nature.

Deepening your Practice

Find space, support and guidance to move deeper into your practice. Spiritual teaching and advice is provided by senior staff on a regular basis.

Developing your talents

You will have the opportunity to develop many skills: teaching a yoga class, working with very different people, improving your communication and self-confidence.

Become an Ambassador for Peace

Swami Vishnudevananda encouraged his students to feel committed to this inspiring mission: becoming an ambassador for peace through teaching yoga to all who are interested and being an example of self-discipline.

Areas of service

We mainly need support in our kitchen and housekeeping departments but depending on your skills and the length of your stay you will also be trained in fields such as gardening, interpreting lectures, webmastering, doing the reception and helping in the Yoga Shop.
