This course will allow you to dive into the heart of yogic life while learning about permaculture. You will discover the fascinating world of permaculture through theory, observation of the environment and practice on the ashram’s micro-farm.
Topics of the lectures:
- Day 1: Introduction to permaculture – history of agriculture – how does permaculture respond to the climate and ecosystem challenge of our time?
- Day 2: Soil and fertility, the great mechanisms of life
- Day 3: Ecosystem services and biodiversity
- Day 4: Permaculture design. How to adapt your living space to your dream? resilience, production, respect for the living, drudgery, economy of means – circular economy.
- Day 5: Types of gardens (including the greenhouse), choice, method of implementation, the place of the tree.
- Day 6: How permaculture fits into our practice of yoga, human permaculture, permaculture and business.
- Day 7: Time for exchange and integration, to clarify certain points and consolidate knowledge
Practical activities:
- Visit and presentation of the farm
- Preparation and maintenance of permanent beds
- Sowing (direct and in nursery), transplanting, planting
- Weeding and mulching of crops and foot passes
- Learning of technical gestures, use of specific tools dedicated to market gardening on living soil without using fossil fuels
- Watering and presentation of the irrigation systems present on the farm
- Organization of a production greenhouse
- Harvesting
Typical day:
- 6am: Meditation, mantra chanting, lecture or walk (satsang)
- 8am: Asanas and pranayama
- 10am: Vegetarian lunch
- 10:45am: Karma Yoga (one hour service in the Ashram)
- noon – 1:30pm: Permaculture Keynote Lecture
- 2pm -5:30pm: Practical workshop
- 6pm: Vegetarian dinner
- 8pm: Meditation, mantra chanting, lecture or walk (satsang)
This course will be taught in French, with translation into English.
Sankara (Frédéric Sauvadet)
Sankara is a permaculture designer. He trained with Charles and Perrine Herve-Gruyer at the Bec Hellouin farm. He now intervenes throughout France to train and accompany the permaculture farms of tomorrow. He is also a practitioner and teacher of Yoga. Gopala
Creator and head cultivator on the ashram farm for three years. Gopala shares the teachings and techniques of permaculture with gentleness and pedagogy.
